Cooks House is a large freestanding lovely two-storey cottage in the style of a barn set in the grounds of a private home.
It has two bedrooms upstairs, the coral bedroom has a queen size bed and cot while the yellow bedroom sleeps four. The upstairs sitting room has a wood fire, with comfortable armchairs and sofas and plenty of books. Downstairs there is a dining room, kitchen and bathroom.
The garden at Hawthorn is in the classical park style and includes oak, beech, ash, birch, chestnut, maple and plane with large expanses of lawn and a dam surrounded by willow and aspen. There are hens and ducks, a tennis court, a circular potage with fruit, vegetables and flowers, an apple and pear arbour and a classical temple. Fresh herbs (in season) grow in abundance in wine barrels outside the cottage.
Mount Wilson was settled in the 1880s as an escape from the summer humidity of Sydney. The Avenue and the original gardens contain century old trees that are a mass of burnt orange, claret and gold and is beautiful all year round especially during Autumn and Spring.
