The Yass and District Historical Society was formed in 1961. The museum was formerly at the lower end of Comur Street. The present museum was purchased in 1984.
It displays historical items pertaining to the Yass District including memorabilia and exhibitions of restored historic photos. There is also a display featuring the involvement of men from the Yass District in the Boer War, World War One and World War Two.
Take a stroll down Comur Street as it was in the 1890s. An exhibition called 'Parallels' displays a model of historic Yass buildings with pictures of their modern day counterparts, to show the relationships and conservation of Yass National Trust-listed main street.
At the rear of the museum is a fascinating presentation on the wool industry.
The museum is located next to the Yass Visitor Information Centre, in Coronation Park.
