St James is the oldest church in Sydney and has been in continuous use since it was consecrated on 11 February 1824. It is typical of the buildings constructed during the term of Governor Macquarie under architect Francis Greenway. Right across the road from the Hyde Park Barracks, a tour of the church will compliment a visit to this must see attraction. Tours are run daily and take in the architecture, the memorials and stained glass and the crypt. If you visit on a Wednesday there is also a lunch time concert series featuring the beautiful pipe organ.
