The Anchorage Holiday Park is located on the outskirts of Iluka village and nestles against the southern perimeter of Bundjalung National Park. It is also close to the Iluka Golf Course. The park has a river frontage that provides easy access and spectacular views westward across the wide expanse of the Clarence River to the hills beyond. Iluka, which is an Aboriginal word for 'by the sea', is the rarest of places, a sleepy coastal fishing village at the mouth of the Clarence River, which is favoured by four mild seasons. Iluka is a haven for Australian fauna and visitors are still lucky enough to view animals in their natural habitat. Kangaroos and emus are a common sight as are many species of birds. A visit to the beaches may include sightings of sea eagles and the shy osprey! A picnic at Shark Bay is often shared with an inquisitive goanna or two. Dolphins make their home in Iluka and are often viewed at play, either in the river or surfing the waves at the beach while from The Bluff lookout, whales may be seen as they make their way north during their migrating season. Visitors can easily experience a World Heritage Rainforest, National Parks, ocean beaches, river rock, beach and deep sea fishing plus all manner of water-based recreation. A visit to the Co-op wharf when the trawlers return just after dawn is an invigorating experience, an atmospheric place of rich fishy smells amid the commotion of unloading the night's catch of prawns, fish and other seafood destined for the local and metropolitan eateries. Safe and comfortable fishing boats can be hired at very reasonable rates in Iluka, which also offers launching facilities for anyone bringing their own craft. Situated beside the river, the Anchorage boasts its own jetty and small-boat launching ramp. For those not interested in fishing, Iluka offers long stretches of unspoilt beaches and perhaps Australia's most accessible rainforest. The World Heritage Iluka Nature Reserve contains the largest remnant of shoreline rainforest in Australia. A gentle walking track (part of it is wheelchair accessible) meanders through the forest and allowing for peaceful observation stops, a round trip takes about 90 minutes. Above all, bring your camera! Sunsets over the Clarence and the breaking waves on the headlands make for beautiful scenic shots of your peaceful holiday.
