The Island Sanctuary, situated in the centre of town, opposite the Town Hall, is an oasis of 14 acres of natural river red gum forest. An ideal picnic area, the sanctuary is abound with native flora and fauna.
Over 100 different species of bird life have been observed in the sanctuary. Many of these species can be seen whilst exploring the walking tracks. Kangaroos can also be seen, often laying about under a tree to escape the warm weather.
