The Gold Coast is a holiday destination
of wonderful contrasts - from the sophistication of Main Beach,
the glamour of Surfers Paradise, action packed theme parks and
wildlife sanctuaries to championship golf courses, fabulous
shopping and rainforest wonderland right at the back door!
A sweeping 70 kilometre coastline offers some 35 patrolled beaches that are among the best in the world. The beach front esplanades of vibrant centres like Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach and Coolangatta, invite you to sit back, relax and soak up the fun and holiday atmosphere.
Things to do on the Gold Coast:
* Check out Hollywood on the Gold Coast at
Warner Bros. Movie World. As well as all the usual rides and
attractions, the Warner-Roadshow Studios next door is a working
studio.
* Explore the 'green behind the gold' - the
unspoiled Gold Coast Hinterland. The famous walks, caves, gorges,
and stunning vistas of Lamington National Park are within easy
reach, and you're sure to encounter wildlife like pademelons
(small wallaby-like creatures), pythons, and bowerbirds.
* Go Yowie hunting. The yowie is a mythical
man-like beast, similar to Big Foot, thought to roam the mountains
of Springbrook. Springbrook is also the site of cascading waterfalls,
stunning lookouts and peaceful picnic grounds.
* Make friends with Australian wildlife like
koalas, kangaroos, dingoes, cassowaries and crocodiles at the
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and David Fleay Wildlife Park.
* Visit the region's only marine theme park, Sea World.
The park started life as a water-ski show on the Nerang River,
but now is an acclaimed theme park and marine research centre.
Staff regularly rescue ailing creatures like dugong, sea turtles,
sharks and dolphins and return them to the wild in good health.
* Head to the border. Coolangatta, on the border
with New South Wales, is a sleepy beach-side community which
gained its name from the wrecking off shore of a schooner in
1846.
* Take a drive to the tea shops, art galleries
and views of Mt Tamborine.
