Rock-strewn, sandy beaches and hoop pine-dotted hillsides that plunge towards the sea contrast with sub-tropical rainforest and mangrove-fringed wetlands - they all combine to make Cape Hillsborough one of the most scenic national parks along the Central Queensland coast. Open eucalypt forest with a grassy understorey covers the hills and headlands, while sheltered valleys and creeks support lush rainforest. Patches of low heath grow on exposed slopes. West of the picnic area, mangrove forests provide an important breeding and feeding ground for marine wildlife.
