Sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and sandstone cliffs fringe these wild and windswept islands. Surrounding them is the majestic Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park. Seagrass beds provide havens for threatened dugong. In summer, green turtles nest here.
Newry Island's 2.8 kilometre circuit track takes in rainforest and open forest. From the lookouts along its path, enjoy views to the mainland and across to the other islands. Watch for wildlife. Orange-footed scrubfowl build nesting mounds on the forest floor. Among the hoop pines and tulip oaks, look for fairy gerygones and superb fruit-doves. Koalas and bandicoots are also commonly seen. Snorkelling is popular.
