Welcome to the beautiful and historic Christ Church established in the mid nineteenth century on the ridge of Montefiore Hill overlooking the city of Adelaide. The determination of the pioneering church-going residents of North Adelaide to hold services in their own place or worship led the women of the district to start a building fund in 1841, but it was not until the arrival of the first bishop, Doctor Augustus Short, in 1848 that construction work was started. What you see today are many of the original features of the first building with extensions and embellishments added throughout the years. Together with its Rectory and neighbouring Bishop's Court, it forms one of the most significant heritage precincts of Adelaide. There are several magnificent stained-glass windows and a tranquil memorial garden. The church is among the few open daily, enabling residents and visitors to spend time in quietness and prayer.
