The cottage is the spacious former Assistant Managers residence at Arkaba Sheep Station, 20 kilometres beyond Hawker on the main road to Wilpena Pound. It is alongside Arkaba Creek and adjacent to the station homestead, with the towering Elder Range as a backdrop. Guests approach through the Arkaba Station main road entrance, then drive two kilometres to the cottage. The Heysen Trail traverses through the station and guests may like to take a walk along Arkaba Creek and the station's many access tracks. On its western border, Arkaba Station contains the Elder Range and its peak, Mount Aleck. Running through its heart are the ridges of the Red Range. Until recently, most of this magnificent wilderness was out of reach. Now as a four wheel drive adventure, you may enjoy driving your own vehicle or an escorted group tour, through this challenging and exciting country.
