Cathcart Ridge takes its name from the family who first settled the land where the vineyard and winery stands today. The estate was established in the mid 1970s - near Great Western in the Grampians Region of Victoria. Since 1975 Cathcart Ridge has been ongoing in producing many award winning wines by following their aim to produce fine quality wines at an affordable price. Lying in the highlands of the Great Dividing Range 5 kilometres west of Ararat the altitude of the vineyard allows for a long slow ripening season with warm dry summer periods and a disease free status both of which create one of the best grape growing regions in Australia. It is a perfect site for growing such classic grape varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. From these cool climate grapes Cathcart Ridge produce a variety of elegant wines with great complexity, intensity and depth of flavour.
