Located in the heart of the Kimberley, Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary offers nearly one million acres of spectacular gorges and tropical savannah dominated by the Fitzroy River and King Leopold Ranges. Owned and managed by the non-profit Australian Wildlife Conservancy, Mornington Wilderness Camp provides a comfortable base from which to explore this naturalists paradise which boasts 170 species of birds and a diverse range of other wildlife. All proceeds are dedicated to the conservation of this amazing part of Australia. From the camp there are many enjoyable day trips at Mornington which will make you want to stay just one more day. Canoeing down Diamond Gorge and swimming and exploring Sir John Gorge are popular outings. Before dinner, take a hamper for sunset drinks at a number of stunning locations. Birdwatching tours leave early in the morning, and are guided by experienced birdwatchers to the best locations. Private tours are available to exclusive locations such as the waterfall at Fitzroy Bluff and the shady Livistona gullies beside Mount Leake. Scenic flights and helicopter tours are available on request. Relax and soak up the atmosphere with a few nights in the new Safari tents which boast their own private ensuite and balcony overlooking Annies creek. Alternatively pitch your own tent in the shady campground, which has communal hot showers and flushing toilets. In the evenings, dine under the stars at the bush bar and licensed restaurant which offers fantastic meals matched with premium Western Australian wines.
