Golden Valley Tree Park is designed to be Western Australia's first major Arboretum, collecting together beautiful and interesting trees from all over the world and growing them in a landscaped setting. The aim of the park is to create an inspirational place for all that enjoy natural beauty to visit.
The historic site, one and a half kilometres south of Balingup, is on two former farming properties first landscaped by the original settlers.
The 60 hectare park is divided into two sections. The area to the west of Padbury Road features the "Australian Collection". On the hilltop above this section a lookout offers fine views of the park and of the Balingup District.
The "Exotic Tree Collection" is located to the east of the road. This site was first landscaped by the original settlers and features many mature specimen trees. Here, beautiful and interesting trees from all over the world are grown. Emphasis has been given to deciduous trees which turn spectacular colours in autumn because the frosty Balingup climate particularly favours such a display.
Walk trails throughout the park help the visitor to make the most of their visit. There is a picnic spot and information gazebo centrally placed in the exotic section. Help yourself to fruit in season. Barbecue area and toilet facilities available.
The award-winning long distance walk trail, The Bibbulmun Track, passes through the Golden Valley on its 1000 kilometre route between Perth hills and Albany on the south coast.
